Kingsford is one of the busiest student corners in Sydney's east, and for good reason. It sits right on Anzac Parade, a 15-to-20-minute walk from the UNSW Kensington campus, and it has long been one of the first places new international students settle. If you want to live close enough to walk to a morning lecture, this is the suburb people keep coming back to.
The run of Anzac Parade through Kingsford is lined with cheap eats — Chinese, Malaysian, Thai and Indonesian kitchens that stay open late and taste like home when you're a long way from it. It's a young, heavily-rented suburb, so most of what comes up is a room in a share house or apartment rather than a whole place, which usually keeps your rent lower and makes it easy to meet other students in your first few months. Zuwu lists verified rooms and share houses here, and because every host has to confirm an Australian mobile number before a listing goes live, there's a real person on the other end.
Getting to class is the whole point of Kingsford. The UNSW Kensington campus is a 15-to-20-minute walk up Anzac Parade, so a lot of students skip transport altogether. If you'd rather ride, the L2 and L3 light rail on Anzac Parade put you two stops from campus, and the same line runs into the city centre in about 25 minutes — handy for a part-time job or a weekend in town.
Kingsford is young and rents far more than it owns, which is a big part of why it feels so easy for students. At the 2021 Census the largest group had European ancestry (around 43%), alongside a sizeable East Asian community (about 18%) and a strong Oceanian presence (around 15%), and that mix shows up in the shops and restaurants along Anzac Parade. You won't be the only one who has just arrived. If nothing in Kingsford suits, the neighbouring suburbs of Kensington, Randwick and Maroubra draw a similar student crowd.

Every host verifies an Australian mobile before a room goes live, and a listing's address stays private until you book an inspection.
